Spring Training Preview: Dodgers Have Chance For Cactus League Sweep Of Padres

The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers meet for a second and final time this spring, with their matchup at Camelback Ranch featuring several regulars.

The Dodgers lineup largely resembles what could be seen come the regular season, while the Padres have Trent Grisham and Fernando Tatís Jr. playing in the road contest.

Noah Syndergaard starts for the Dodgers in what’s his second appearance overall this year. Syndergaard collected a pair of strikeouts over two scoreless innings out of the bullpen last week, but his velocity remained noticeably down.

The right-hander dismissed having any concern with velocity this early into spring and instead said his focus is on continuing to iron out delivery mechanics.

Dustin May, Gavin Stone, Justin Bruihl and Tayler Scott are also scheduled to pitch for the Dodgers on Monday. The appearance for May will be his second in Cactus League play, but first out of the bullpen.

The Padres counter with Nick Martinez, who has allowed just four hits in six scoreless innings across two starts this year. Martinez stretched out to four innings pitched in his last start.

He sees a Dodgers lineup with Mookie Betts in the leadoff spot, followed by Freddie Freeman and Will Smith. Miguel Vargas is batting ninth and still isn’t cleared to swing a bat in games.

Dodgers lineup

RF: Mookie Betts
1B: Freddie Freeman
C: Will Smith
3B: Max Muncy
DH: J.D. Martinez
CF: Jason Heyward
LF: Chris Taylor
SS: Miguel Rojas
2B: Miguel Vargas

Padres lineup

CF: Trent Grisham
RF: Fernando Tatís Jr.
1B: Matt Carpenter
C: Luis Campusano
LF: David Dahl
DH: Austin Nola
2B: Rougned Odor
SS: Jackson Merrill
3B: Jantzen White
