After defeating the Cincinnati Reds at Goodyear Ballpark, the Los Angeles Dodgers return to Camelback Ranch for their first matchup of the spring against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Clayton Kershaw makes his second start of Cactus League play and looks to build off a solid debut. He allowed two hits with two strikeouts over two scoreless innings on 22 pitches.
The outing particularly was special for Kershaw as his family got to watch him pitch in person. “It was the first time they’ve actually been able to sit in the stands for a while,” Kershaw said.
“It was fun to see my kiddos actually get to sit in a seat and watch the game. I got to wave to them, so that was fun.”
Kershaw did additional throwing in the bullpen prior to making his way to the clubhouse. “Felt like the ball was coming out good today. Just another good stepping point for the season,” he said after the outing.
Victor Gonzalez, Dennis Santana, Blake Treinen, Garrett Cleavinger and Gerardo Carrillo are also scheduled to appear at some point during the eight-inning game.
The Diamondbacks counter with Seth Frankoff, who makes his third appearance of the spring. In his two previous outings, he allowed a combined four runs on six hits with three strikeouts across 4.1 innings of work.
Frankoff appeared in two games for the Seattle Mariners last season in what marked his first Major League work since 2017. He allowed five runs on six hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
Frankoff faces a Dodgers lineup that includes Mookie Betts and Corey Seager at the top, which is how they have been slotted in each of their starts this spring. Max Muncy is also playing and Chris Taylor makes a second start at third base.
