Sony San Diego Studio Revealing MLB The Show 22 Cover Athlete On January 31

Sony San Diego Studio announced plans to reveal the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete via a Times Square live stream from New York on Monday, January 31, at 8:35 a.m. PT. Last year that honor went to San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr.

Though, MLB The Show 21 also released in a Jackie Robinson Edition that featured the famed Brooklyn Dodgers star on the cover. It was offered in three different versions: Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition ($99.99), Digital Deluxe Edition ($99.99) and Jackie Robinson Edition ($84.99).

PlayStation donated $1 to the Jackie Robinson Foundation for every Collector’s Edition sold in the United States during 2021.

MLB The Show 22 does not have a set release date, but the game is forthcoming regardless of the lockout. Each year the game historically has been made available around the middle of April.

Fans interested in watching the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete unveil can tune in on Twitch, YouTube and TheShow.com.

The game presumably will again be available for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

Who will be the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete?

Much of the speculation leading up to the cover unveil has centered around the selection likely being Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani. He put together a historic 2021 season that among other accolades, earned him MVP, a Silver Slugger and AP Male Athlete of the Year.

Given his rise to prominence as both a pitcher and hitter, and presence on an international level, many anticipate Ohtani to be on the cover of MLB The Show 22.
