The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, are headed into the 2024 with manager John Shoemaker once again at the helm for a fourth season.

Ramon Troncoso and Sean Coyne are two additional members of the 2023 Quakes coaching staff who also make their returns this year. Troncoso is back for his fourth consecutive season with the team, while Coyne is entering a second straight season.

Hitting coach Blake Gailen and bench coach Cordell Hipolito are the newcomers to the Quakes coaching staff in 2024.

Rounding out the staff are athletic trainer Aki Maeda, performance coach Walter Lindo and video associate Dallas Young. Maeda returns to the Quakes for his second season, while Lindo and Young join the team for their first season.

Shoemaker began his coaching career in 1981, where he started as a hitting coach with the Vero Beach Dodgers of the Florida State League. Last season, Shoemaker led the Quakes to a 71-61 finish in the regular season and punched a ticket to the California League playoffs.

The Quakes made it to the California League Championship Series but ultimately fell just short. During his three-year tenure as the manager of the Quakes, the team has a 206-178 record.

The two Rancho Cucamonga pitching coaches, Troncoso and Coyne, helped their staff lead the California League in strikeouts and a second overall finish in the entirety of the Single-A level. Quakes pitchers led the California League in limiting hits and owned the lowest batting average against, and were about average in surrendering home runs.

Walks were the source of their struggles in 2023, leading the California League by a wide margin and greatly inflating the their collective WHIP. If the coaches and players can work to find a way to limit walks in 2024, the sky could be the limit for the Quakes’ pitching staff.

Gailen received his coaching start in the Rookie Leagues with the Arizona Complex League Dodgers in 2022. Hipolito makes his Quakes coaching debut with several years of coaching experience under his belt, including time coaching college baseball and with the Dominican Summer League Dodgers from 2021-23.

The Quakes start their 2024 campaign on April 5 against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Rancho Cucamonga finished as the runner-up in the 2023 California League Championship Series.
