Shohei Ohtani has been nothing short of incredible in his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and that now includes him setting another franchise record.

Ohtani slugged his 50th home run of the season on Thursday against the Miami Marlins to make him the Dodgers’ franchise record holder for most home runs in a single season.

The previous mark of 49 was held by Shawn Green, whom Ohtani tied on Thursday as well. Green hit his 49 home runs in 2001.

Green broke the Dodgers home run record that previously had been shared by Gary Sheffield (2000) and Duke Snider (1956), as they both hit 43.

Adrian Beltré (48 home runs in 2007) and Cody Bellinger (47; 2017) both came close to Green’s Dodgers record in their respective seasons.

Ohtani has set numerous other records along the way this season. Early in the year, Ohtani passed Hideki Matsui for the top spot on the all-time MLB home run list by Japanese-born players with 176.

He then passed his manager, Dave Roberts, for the most home runs by a Japanese-born player in Dodgers history with eight for the club.

Most recently, Ohtani hit his 48th home run of the year, which gave him 219 for his career. That made him MLB’s all-time home run leader among Asian-born players, surpassing Shin Soo-Choo.

Shohei Ohtani establishes 50-50 club

Ohtani is now the first 50-50 player in MLB history. He reached 50 stolen bases during Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins.

Ohtani previously became the fastest player in MLB history to hit 40 homers and collect 40 stolen bases. Overall, six players have ever reached those totals in a single season.

He became the first to collect at least 43 home runs and 43 stolen bases in a season, and continued to add to that record.
