Beats officially began selling their highly-anticipated Powerbeats Pro 2 headphones globally, and launched the product with sports super stars Shohei Ohtani, LeBron James and Lionel Messi starring together in a commercial.
“Getting to be a part of this campaign with LeBron James and Lionel Messi is really special,” Ohtani said in a statement. “Tapping in to your heart is important whether you’re an athlete on the biggest stage or just getting started and I’m excited to partner with Beats to help deliver that message.”
The Beats by Dr. Dre marketing campaign is titled “Listen to Your Heart” and narrated by hip-hop icon RZA. The commercial highlights Powerbeats Pro 2 along with the connection between passion, performance and heart.
Powerbeats Pro 2 wireless headphones are designed for high performance and include a groundbreaking feature of a built-in heart-rate sensor. And for the first time in a pair of Powerbeats is noise canceling.
“I’ve been a huge fan of the Powerbeats line since it first launched, and seeing it evolve into the new Powerbeats Pro 2 is incredible,” James said. “Music has always been a key motivator in my training, and these earphones take an already iconic product to the next level.”
Messi added: “Even though we come from different sports, what connects us is our shared passion to perform at the highest level. This campaign reflects how true power comes from the heart—how we’ve all used that inner drive to fuel our journeys and push ourselves throughout our careers.”
The original Powerbeats headphones released in May 2019.
The Powerbeats Pro 2 retained the same overall ergonomic shape of the earbud and acoustic housing, but completely redesigned the ear hook to make it 50% smaller than its predecessor. Also included in the newer version is nickel-titanium alloy that is flexible and durable. The earbuds additionally are 20% lighter than the original model.
Powerbeats Pro 2 headphones are available in four color options and cost $249.99.
When did Shohei Ohtani sign with Beats?
Ohtani was announced as a new Beats brand ambassador late last year. The sponsorship deal calls for Ohtani to appear in Beats marketing campaigns that spotlight the brand’s dynamic lineup of products.
“As a Beats ambassador, I am truly honored to work with such incredible athletes such as Lebron James and Lionel Messi,” Ohtani said at the time. “I am excited at the new opportunities this partnership will bring.”
