Shohei Ohtani Leading Pitchers And Hitters In Active MLB Streaks

In the midst of his ninth MLB season, what Shohei Ohtani is able to accomplish on the diamond has not become any less astonishing with age.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way superstar has truly embodied his title as of late by way of separate hot streaks. The 31-year-old extended his a league-leading active on-base streak to 42 games on Tuesday, with a single and two walks in three at-bats against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, Ohtani completed six scoreless innings in his first start of the 2026 season and has the chance to further extend his scoreless streak on Wednesday in the series finale against the Blue Jays. When taking last season into account, Ohtani has a 22.2 scoreless innings streak as a pitcher, good for the longest active stretch as well.

The Dodgers made the decision to push back Ohtani’s spot in the rotation, giving him seven days of rest between starts. He is pitching with fewer restrictions compared to last season, but the Dodgers’ plan for him remains “fluid.”

There was some concern on Tuesday night when Blue Jays catcher Brandon Valenzuela hit Ohtani in the left elbow/tricep area on his follow through when throwing down to first base. Ohtani immediately grabbed at the area and appeared to be in some pain while getting checked on by a trainer.

He remained in the game and manager Dave Roberts indicated there wasn’t any concern.

Ohtani has looked much better at the plate on the road trip, going 9-for-24 with three home runs and eight RBI thus far. He’s expected to again be in the leadoff spot in addition to making a second pitching start of the season.

Shohei Ohtani rewards Dodgers fan at Nationals Park

The Dodgers had their series finale against the Washington Nationals delayed due to rain, but Ohtani still created some magic for a fan.

Before the game began more than two hours after the originally scheduled time, Ohtani was on the field going through pitching workouts while it was raining. While most people were looking for shelter from the water, one child stayed out in the rain to watch Ohtani practice.

After completing his workout, Ohtani went over to the fan to take a photo and handed him the baseball that he used.
