Shohei Ohtani Family Foundation Established To Help Children & Animals

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani started his own charity foundation as a way to support children and protect animals.

The Shohei Ohtani Family Foundation’s main mission is to “create healthier, happier communities by funding initiatives that inspire children to stay active and live well, and by supporting programs that rescue, protect, and care for animals in need.”

The organization’s logo features silhouettes of Ohtani, his wife Mamiko, their daughter and pet dog Decoy.

Ohtani becomes the latest Dodgers player to establish a charity foundation with an eye on giving back to the community.

Mookie Betts, who was the recipient of the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award for his charitable contributions, has made a positive impact through the Mookie Betts 5050 Foundation.

Clayton Kershaw has also supported numerous causes through his own organization, while the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation routinely gives back to underserved communities throughout the city.

Ohtani’s previous charity work included donating thousands of baseball gloves to students in Japan and also making financial contributions to support Southern California wildfire victims.

Shohei Ohtani’s expected pitching schedule in 2026

Ohtani returned to pitching this year and was methodically built up to reach the Dodgers’ targeted goal of six innings by the end of the regular season.

He went 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA, 1.90 FIP, 1.04 WHIP and 11.9 strikeouts per nine in 47 innings across 14 starts. Ohtani then posted a 2-1 record with a 4.43 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 12.4 strikeouts per nine in 20.1 innings across four starts in the postseason.

After logging a combined 67.1 innings in 2025, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes suggested that Ohtani could be on a normal pitching schedule next year.

Even if he throws on a regular schedule in 2026, the Dodgers will still presumably look to give Ohtani as much extra rest as possible, just as they do with their other starters.
