According to a poll by Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business that had 762 respondents, 72% of Americans said they would not attend sporting events if they resumed until there is a vaccine for the coronavirus (COVID-19) in place.

This has been a popular topic in recent weeks as sports leagues attempt to get back underway at some point in 2020. Major League Baseball has discussed a variety of options to make that possible, with the most likely being all games played in Arizona with no fans in the stadium.

Fans were also polled on if they would watch games on TV if they are played in empty stadiums, and 76% said they would and do so with the same amount of interest they had before the pandemic. Only 16% said they would be less interested, and 7% said they would be more interested.

While MLB and other leagues are discussing ways to get some sort of 2020 season in, they are still a ways off from that happening as essentially the entire country is still quarantined to their respective homes. How much longer that will be for remains to be seen, but 46% of those who participated in the poll said they think sports will be cancelled through the end of 2020.

That would obviously be unfortunate but may be necessary if the pandemic continues on the path it has over the last month. Hopefully everyone can continue to do their part by staying home so that the country can get everything under control and sports and business can resume at some point this year.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were considered the favorites by many to represent the National League in the 2020 World Series. If the whole season is cancelled, they would have a number of key players like Mookie Betts, Justin Turner, Joc Pederson, Kiké Hernandez and Pedro Baez who would become free agents this winter.
