Excitement surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Seoul Series opener against the San Diego Padres at Gocheok Sky Dome was tempered a bit after Shohei Ohtani became the target of a bomb threat.

The incident had no effect on the game as first pitch took place at the scheduled start time with 15,952 fans in attendance to watch the historic matchup.

South Korean law enforcement officials ultimately deemed the threat as not credible and said the perpetrator has a history of making false claims.

Furthermore, no explosives were found at Gocheok Sky Dome after police officers conducted a thorough search that included bomb-sniffing dogs and X-ray detectors, via Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:

South Korean police said they’ve found no explosives at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome after searching the site Wednesday following a reported bomb threat against Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.

About 150 police officers used sniffer dogs, X-ray detectors and other equipment to search through the stadium, but no suspicious objects were discovered, according to Seoul’s Guro police station.

The bomb threat was an unfortunate situation that Ohtani and the Dodgers had to deal with on what was otherwise a memorable night.

The team rallied for four runs in the eighth to come away with a 5-2 win over the Padres. Ohtani provided some insurance during the inning with an RBI single and finished 2-for-5 in his Dodgers debut.

Dodgers kept focus on Seoul Series amid bomb threat

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts did not pay much attention to the bomb threat after speaking with law enforcement officials.

“I heard it, and they said it was diffused and not to think too much of it, so I didn’t really pay too much mind,” Roberts said.

When pressed further on his wording, Roberts said he did not have specifics about the threat or if any device had been found.
