Ryan Pepiot Thanks Former Dodgers Teammates After Tampa Bay Rays Trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed their trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday to part with Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca in exchange for Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot.

Multiple days passed between the initial reports of the Dodgers and Rays working on a trade to when it was made official. During that time the Dodgers were said to not be particularly fond of Margot, who is expected to fill a platoon role with the team.

But the delay more likely stemmed from the Dodgers working on a contract extension with Glasnow. The right-hander is stepping into a Dodgers starting rotation that Pepiot projected to be part of in 2024 and beyond. Now the Dodgers have Glasnow under team control for multiple seasons, just like with Pepiot.

Shortly after the trade was completed, Pepiot posted on Instagram to thank his former Dodgers teammates, coaches and organization as a whole for helping him develop.

Pepiot was among multiple Dodgers pitching prospects who received opportunities at the Major League level over the past two seasons. An injury to Tony Gonsolin created an opportunity in the Opening Day rotation that Pepiot beat out Michael Grove for, only to then suffer an oblique strain in his final start of Spring Training.

That delayed his 2024 debut with the team and overall impact, but the 26-year-old pitched well in the reduced opportunity.

Ryan Pepiot’s career with Dodgers

The Dodgers picked Pepiot in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Pepiot made his debut in 2022 and overall appeared in 17 games (10 starts) during his Dodgers career.

Pepiot went 5-1 with a 2.76 ERA, 4.76 FIP and 1.09 WHIP in those games. The Rays are an organization with a strong track record of young pitchers shining, which Pepiot should add onto.
