The Los Angeles Dodgers’ surprising signing of All-Star closer Edwin Díaz has fueled speculation that they could make additional splashes this offseason.
One possibility is a blockbuster trade for back-to-back American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal, whose name has come up in discussions with the Detroit Tigers.
The left-hander is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season, and the Tigers could look to get a haul for him if they don’t feel good about their chances to re-sign him.
The Dodgers already have a star-studded rotation, but Tyler Glasnow is still hoping the team can pull off a trade for Skubal, via MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM:
“I think it would be sick if we went out and got him. He’s probably one of the most unbelievable pitchers I’ve ever seen. And I’ve just heard such good things about him too. The Dodgers are really big on signing guys who have plus-personalities and are good in the clubhouse. He’d be a perfect fit. Just to pitch along with him in the rotation would be kind of a dream, so I hope we can get that done.”
The Tigers are believed to be intrigued by the Dodgers’ potential package of prospects in a deal for Skubal, with Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, Eduardo Quintero, Alex Freeland and Mike Sirota among the names being floated around.
Even if the Tigers and Dodgers could align on players involved, a Skubal trade may hinge on his willingness — or lack thereof — to sign a contract extension.
Tyler Glasnow reassured amid Dodgers trade rumors
Ironically, Glasnow had been mentioned as a player who could go back to the Tigers in a potential trade for Skubal.
However, the right-hander was reassured by Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman that he will be staying put in L.A.
