The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a sluggish start to their final homestand of the regular season and now look to clinch a series win against the Colorado Rockies.

Doing so would further lower the Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the National League West title and have implications for the best record in baseball. They entered the day tied with the Philadelphia Phillies at 92-62.

Another aspect for the Dodgers is needing to remain ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL postseason bracket in order to earn a first-round bye and receive a spot in the NL Division Series. The Dodgers could be just days away from clinching a top-two seed in the NL as they are four games in front of the Brewers.

Walker Buehler is on the mound Saturday night as he looks to build on one of his better starts of the season. Buehler faced plenty of traffic but held the Atlanta Braves to just two runs (one earned) over six innings pitched. He also limited them to three hits, only to hurt his own cause with five walks.

Overall this season, Buehler is 1-5 with a 5.54 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 14 starts. Despite a prolonged stretch of struggling and inconsistency, the right-hander is a candidate for the Dodgers’ postseason rotation.

Cal Quantrill starts for the Rockies in what’s his third time facing the Dodgers this year. Quantrill allowed four runs in 4.1 innings pitched at Dodger Stadium on June 1, then gave up three runs over five innings at home on June 17.

Saturday’s start is Quantrill’s second since returning from the injured list. The right-hander had a 3.30 ERA through his first 14 starts of the season, but hasn’t been able to replicate that success amid suffering a forearm strain and triceps inflammation in August and September, respectively.
