Rockies Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman In Lineup

As expected, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are both in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup for the series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

Betts returns after missing one game due to a stomach bug.

“He’s here, he’s laying low, relaxing. It’s one of those things that I don’t know if it was food poisoning or what it is, but he just doesn’t feel well,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday.

“I don’t want to go into details, but when you start talking about dehydration and things like that, it potentially could lead to something else. So best to just stay away from him tonight and the plan is to get him in the lineup tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Freeman shook off being hit by a pitch in the right knee during the seventh inning of the Dodgers’ 4-1 win. Freeman assured he would be fine moving forward and deemed X-rays unnecessary.

“It feels like I got hit by a ball,” he said. “It hurt. I had a little bit of a wobbly leg there for a second, but got some ice, got some compression and I feel alright.”

Including Sunday, Freeman has started all 117 of the Dodgers’ games this season. He leads the team in batting average (.342), on-base percentage (.419), slugging (.593), on-base plus slugging (1.012), doubles (43), RBI (83) and total hits (158).

Freeman additionally is the Major League leader in doubles.

He, Betts and the rest of the Dodgers lineup look to provide run support for Julio Urías. The left-hander is in the midst of a 14-inning scoreless streak and just celebrated his 27th birthday on Saturday.

Urías struggled to the tune of a 6-5 record, 4.76 ERA and 1.18 WHIP during the first half of the season. He has since turned a corner by going 3-1 with a 3.54 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over his last five starts.

All told in 2023, Urías is 9-6 with a 4.39 ERA, 4.45 FIP and 1.16 WHIP in 92.1 innings pitched across 17 starts.

The Rockies counter with Kyle Freeland, who enters 4-12 with a 4.84 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. The left-hander was knocked around by the Dodgers in a home start on June 28, allowing six runs on four hits and five walks. Though, Freeland did collect seven strikeouts in his five innings pitched.

The Dodgers are looking to sweep the Rockies in a four-game series for the first time since September 22-25, 2016. That series ended with Charlie Culberson hitting a walk-off home run to clinch the National League West on Vin Scully’s final home game.

Minutes before first pitch, the Dodgers put Joe Kelly on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation.
