The Chicago Cubs seem to be the leading candidate to host the MLB All-Star Game in 2027, but there is still one important item left on the agenda that needs to be addressed in order for Wrigley Field to receive that honor.
Seemingly the only hurdle preventing that is security at Wrigley Field doesn’t meet the standards MLB requires for the All-Star Game. Commissioner Rob Manfred said the Cubs are actively working on addressing those concerns in order to receive the bid to host the 2027 MLB All-Star Game.
“There are remaining issues that the Cubs are working through with local people. We’re hoping that we get in position. We think Wrigley would be a great host for an All-Star Game,” Manfred said.
The Atlanta Braves are hosting the 2025 MLB All-Star Game with the Philadelphia Phillies following suit in 2026. Currently, there are no further All-Star Game host cities scheduled beyond 2026.
Among active ballparks, Wrigley Field is in a three-way tie with Fenway Park and Angel Stadium for the most All-Star Games hosted at three. The first was back in 1947 and the Cubs have not hosted the Midsummer Classic since 1990. Wrigley Field would pull ahead of Fenway Park and Angel Stadium for most All-Star Games hosted if the Cubs can secure the right for 2027.
As MLB’s oldest and one of its most storied venues, Wrigley Field makes a lot of sense to host another All-Star Game after what would be a 37-year drought.
If the Cubs are able to secure their position as the All-Star Game host for 2027, they would be the third consecutive National League team to receive the event. It would be the longest streak since the Cincinnati Reds, Sand Diego Padres, Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals hosted from 2015-2018.
Shohei Ohtani enjoyed first game at Wrigley Field
At the beginning of the 2024 season, Shohei Ohtani had yet to play at Wrigley Field in Chicago, National’s Park in Washington D.C. and PNC Park in Pittsburgh. He completed his list of playing at every MLB stadium by the time the season was over.
Ohtani’s first game at Wrigley Field turned out to be a stereotypically windy Chicago day, but he enjoyed the experience nonetheless and complemented the beauty of the venue.
