Recap: Yoshinobu Yamamoto Can’t Escape 1st Inning In Dodgers Loss To Brewers

The Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to get back on track, losing the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-1, just one day after being swept by the Houston Astros. They are now on a four-game losing streak.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was sent to the mound looking to be the stopper and put an end to the skid, but instead, he was unable to escape the first inning.

Sal Frelick started the Brewers off with a double before William Contreras walked. Yamamoto then retired the next two hitters, but he then left a hanging slider to Andrew Vaughn, who was making his Brewers’ debut and blasted the pitch for a three-run homer.

Isaac Collins followed with a single and Brice Turang walked to put two more runners on, then Caleb Durbin reached on a throwing error by Mookie Betts that allowed the fourth run to score.

Andruw Monasterio singled in another run, and that brought an end to Yamamoto’s outing before Jack Dreyer got them out of the jam.

The right-hander finished his night recording just two outs while allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits. He didn’t strike anyone out and walked two.

The Brewers ended up scoring two more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead, this time against Will Klein, who allowed two walks to Contreras and Vaughn before giving up two RBI singles to Collins and Turang.

All seven of the Brewers’ runs were scored with two outs, until they added on more in the seventh.

Julian Fernández took over on the mound, and he was greeted with a single from Jackson Chourio and before Christian Yelich homered to extend their lead to nine runs.

Dodgers offensive issues continue

After scoring just six runs in three games against the Astros, the Dodgers failed to score much against the Brewers in the series opener. Brewers’ starter Freddy Peralta completed six scoreless innings while striking out seven, walking one and allowing five hits.

Their only extra base hits came from Michael Conforto and James Outman as both of them doubled.

Their only run was scored by Shohei Ohtani in the 8th inning thanks to a deflection by Aaron Ashby that prevented his defenders from making a play. Esteury Ruiz was credited with a single and RBI on the play.
