Recap: Tanner Scott Loses Combined No-Hitter, But Dodgers Beat Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers returned from a week-long road trip still saddled by an anemic offense, but clawed together just enough timely hits in 3-1 comeback win and a near combined no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies.

Rockies starter Chase Dollander limited the Dodgers to just one hit and one run over five-plus innings. Dollander had a no-hitter until Michael Conforto’s leadoff single in the fifth inning. That was followed by a Hyeseong Kim strikeout and Andy Pages grounding into a double play.

Dollander’s night came to an end at 76 pitches due to an apparent lower leg injury. He exited the game after issuing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth.

When Dollander faced the Dodgers at Coors Field on Aug. 21, he allowed seven runs on nine hits and pitched just 3.2 innings. The Dodgers scored three runs off the right-hander during his start on June 25.

The pitching change worked in the Dodgers’ favor, as Juan Mejia walked Shohei Ohtani and two batters later gave up a game-tying RBI double to Freddie Freeman on a chopper that went over first base and down the line.

Mookie Betts put the Dodgers ahead with a two-run single in the seventh inning. The table had been set when Andy Pages was hit by a pitch and Ohtani doubled.

Dodgers close to combined no-hitter

Tyler Glasnow made the start three days after being scratched from a scheduled outing because of back tightness. Glasnow returned to Los Angeles over the weekend to meet with doctors, who cleared him with a clean bill of health.

Glasnow wasn’t efficient but turned in seven no-hit innings. However, Colorado still managed to take a lead in the second inning because of Glasnow’s wildness. Following a leadoff walk and stolen base, the Rockies hit two fly balls to bring in Jordan Beck.

Kyle Farmer, who needed to enter as an injury replacement for Warming Bernabel, collected the RBI on his sacrifice fly.

Glasnow joined Yoshinobu Yamamoto as the second Dodgers starter in the last three games to have a no-hitter through at least the seventh inning. Glasnow finished with 11 strikeouts, marking his 21st career start with at least 10.

Blake Treinen was the first reliever Dodgers manager Dave Roberts turned to, and he bounced back from a disastrous appearance on Saturday to complete a scoreless eighth inning.

Tanner Scott received a similar opportunity as he entered in the ninth to potentially finish off the second combined no-hitter in Dodgers franchise history. Scott gave up a leadoff double and heard boos before proceeding to finish off the save opportunity.

Overall, the Dodgers have 23 no-hitters. Their most recent remains the combined no-no started by Walker Buehler in the Mexico Series during the 2018 season.

It would have been the Dodgers’ second no-hitter while allowing one run, joining the effort by Dazzy Vance in 1925.
