Recap: Tyler Glasnow Shines, Dodgers Hit 3 Home Runs In Series Win Vs. Royals

The Los Angeles Dodgers got back on track with a 3-0 win against the Kansas City Royals to win the series.

Tyler Glasnow was dominant, throwing seven shutout innings on 85 pitches. He gave up just three hits and one walk while adding nine strikeouts to his MLB-leading total of 125.

It was the sixth time this season Glasnow has thrown at least seven innings in a start.

Glasnow did not receive any run support for a stretch of five games before his poor outing against the Yankees, making him 0-4 in his last six starts. But that turned around on Sunday.

Shohei Ohtani started the scoring with a solo home run in the 3rd inning. It was his 18th homer of the year, and it was a crushed, traveling 451 feet and leaving the bat at 114.3 mph.

Ohtani homered again in the sixth inning, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. However, his second homer of the day, and 19th of the season, was less impressive as it only left the bat at 110.7 mph and went 400 feet.

Freddie Freeman followed Ohtani’s second of the day with a homer of his own as well, giving the Dodgers back-to-back blasts. Freeman’s homer traveled 401 feet and left the bat at 108.3 mph.

After Glasnow exited the game, Daniel Hudson took over and pitched a quick eighth inning with two strikeouts. Evan Phillips recorded the save with a scoreless ninth.

Mookie Betts injured in Dodgers’ win

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news for the Dodgers. In the seventh inning, Mookie Betts was drilled in the left hand by a 98 mph fastball from Dan Altavilla, and he immediately went down in serious pain.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and trainer Yosuke “Possum” Nakajima went to check on Betts, and he showed signs of pain every time he attempted to close his hand. Betts was replaced by Miguel Rojas.

Betts’ injury comes just one day after Yoshinobu Yamamoto left his start early due to triceps tightness, and he was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier today.
