Recap: Tyler Glasnow Dominant & Teoscar Hernández Hits Home Run To Take Series Vs. Tigers

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers faced off in a series rubber match that was delayed by nearly one hour due to rain. But the rain didn’t wash away the Dodgers’ hopes of a series win as they came out victorious.

Of the Dodgers six games on their current road trip, five of them were one-run games, and they lost four of them. This was the Dodgers’ first game since Aug. 23 that they have won or lost by more than one run.

Additionally, Sunday marked the Dodgers’ last interleague game of the regular season. They’ve won a Major League-leading 31 games against their American League opponents.

Dodgers 6, Tigers 1: key takeaways

Tyler Glasnow continues excellent pitching

Although it was unclear if Tyler Glasnow would start or follow Shohei Ohtani until Saturday afternoon, the right-hander didn’t let the potential schedule change throw him off at all.

Glasnow ended up pitching seven innings while allowing just one run on two hits. He struck out six and walked one.

The only run he allowed came in the fourth inning after he gave up a leadoff single to Gleyber Torres, who then moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Kevin McGongile followed with a one-out single to bring the run home.

It was just Glasnow’s second start since returning from the injured list, and he’s now gone 12 innings while allowing four runs in that time. Overall this season, he’s posted a 2.79 ERA across 51.2 innings.

Teoscar Hernández hits key home run

The Dodgers’ offense once again wasn’t at its best, but they were still able to come away with a win thanks to a timely home run from Teoscar Hernández and then some mistakes from the Tigers.

Before that point, they took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, starting with a pair of one-out singles from Freddie Freeman and Hernández. Freeman ended up scoring on a sacrifice fly from Miguel Rojas.

After the Tigers answered back in the bottom of the fourth, the game remained tied until Hernández slugged a two-run homer in the sixth inning, which scored Freeman after he reached on a double.

That was Hernández’s first home run since Aug. 3 and just his 12th of the season. He has recorded four hits in the series across his 11 at-bats while scoring a pair of runs and driving in two.

The Tigers got sloppy in the eighth inning, allowing the Dodgers to take advantage and add on. A one-out double from Betts was followed by a walk from Freeman and Hernández being hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Dodgers ended up scoring two runs on wild pitches, and one when Max Muncy had a pinch-hit, RBI single.

The offense finished the day going 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left six on base.
