Recap: Shohei Ohtani Hits 2 Of 5 Dodgers’ Home Runs In Blowout Win Vs. Athletics

The Los Angeles Dodgers hit five home runs with Shohei Ohtani accounting for two of them to blow out the Athletics with a 19-2 victory, taking the series from them after dropping the opener on Tuesday.

The Dodgers totaled 18 hits and every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit. Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Dalton Rushing, James Outman and Hyeseong Kim all had multiple hits in the game, while Muncy, Andy Pages and Outman joined in on the home run party. Muncy and Kim led the way with three hits each.

The score became so lopsided early that the Dodgers took out Mookie Betts, Freeman and Pages after the third inning, replacing them with Miguel Rojas, Kiké Hernández and Chris Taylor to give the starters some extra rest.

While the game proved to be all Dodgers, it was actually the Athletics that scored the first run of the game, which came in the first inning when Shea Langeliers doubled home Jacob Wilson, who reached on a walk.

But the Dodgers answered back with three runs in their half of the first with Freeman driving in Betts on a single and Muncy blasting a two-run homer.

The A’s added one back in the second on a homer from Max Schuemann, but that was all the scoring for them as the Dodgers ran away with the game.

Rushing, who was making his MLB debut, walked in his first at-bat before Kim singled. The rookie catcher scored on a sacrifice fly from Ohtani and Betts singled Kim home. Muncy then ended up singling home Betts to make it a 6-2 game after two innings.

In the third, Rushing started the offense off with his first career hit, a one-out single. Outman walked and Kim singled home Rushing. Ohtani then blasted his first homer of the game to drive in three more runs.

Betts and Muncy both walked and Pages followed that up with the second three-run homer of the inning. Michael Conforto followed with a double, but was left stranded.

In the fourth, Ohtani hit his second homer of the game, this time a two-run shot after Kim walked, giving the Dodgers 15 runs. Outman added on his home run in the sixth inning to put the Dodgers up 16-2.

With a position player in the game to pitch the eighth, the Dodgers added on again, this time with Kim doubling after singles from Rushing and Outman. Rojas also drove in a run with a single and Muncy with a sac fly.

The Dodgers set season highs in the game with 5 home runs and 19 runs.

The Dodgers gave the ball to Matt Sauer to start the game, and he ended up giving them four innings of two-run ball. He allowed two hits, two walks and struck out two.

Anthony Banda worked a scoreless fifth inning, and then Justin Wrobleski, who was recalled earlier in the day, earned a four-inning save to close out the game.
