Recap: Roki Sasaki Sets Season High, But Dodgers Losing Streak Reaches 4 Games

Offense remained largely nonexistent for the Los Angeles Dodgers and a late rally fell short in their 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. With that, the Dodgers’ season-long losing streak was extended to four games and they’re facing the prospect of getting swept by the Cardinals on Sunday.

Roki Sasaki’s start once more was a mixed bag, with arguably the most encouraging aspect being his ability to bounce back after running into some trouble. Sasaki continued to mix in his revamped splitter amid a search for sustained success.

Cardinals 3, Dodgers 2: key takeaways

Roki Sasaki’s season high

Sasaki faced self-inflicted traffic in the first and second innings but managed to keep the game scoreless up to that point. He stranded a two-out walk and single in the first inning, then a hit by pitch and walk with two outs in the second.

But the Cardinals then opened the third inning with back-to-back doubles by Iván Herrera and Alec Burleson to take a 1-0 lead. Sasaki then hung an 0-2 pitch to Jordan Walker for a two-run homer. Walker at that point improved to 6-for-6 in the series.

To Sasaki’s credit, he responded by retiring the final 10 batters faced. He completed six innings for the first time this season, turned in a second career quality start and his first in 2026.

Dodgers double plays

Manager Dave Roberts thought his offense would begin to find their footing at the start of the road trip but that’s yet to become a reality.

The Dodgers went a fourth consecutive game without a home run and couldn’t get out of their own way even when managing to put baserunners on. They had at least one runner in each of the first five innings, only to hit into four double plays during that span.

Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy completed six scoreless innings despite his three walks to go along with three hits.

L.A. brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the seventh inning, which ended with Andy Pages chasing out of the zone. They did the same in the ninth inning but came up short after RBI singles by Max Muncy and Pages.

Alternate Dodgers road jersey

Earlier this season the Dodgers unveiled a new alternate blue jersey for road games, which they now have worn five times thus far. They started 2-0 in the new look but have since lost the last three games when in the alternate road jersey.
