Recap: Mookie Betts Does It All To Help Dodgers Beat Phillies For 7th Consecutive Win

Mookie Betts made an impact at the plate and defensively to help the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-4, extending their winning streak to a season-high-tying seven games. Of those, six have been come-from-behind wins.

Starting for the first time this season, Mitch White allowed an RBI double to Jean Segura in the second inning, and Alec Bohm’s two-run home run in the third again put Philadelphia ahead. White went 2.1 innings

Outside of a Justin Turner double and Mookie Betts solo home run, Aaron Nola largely had his way with the Dodgers lineup through four innings. He was on the verge of getting through the fifth with a lead still intact, but Chris Taylor’s two-out single started a really.

Gavin Lux kept the inning alive by working a walk, and Betts took advantage of the opportunity by driving a two-run double into center field.

Nola pitched into the sixth inning but was removed after surrendering a game-tying solo home run to Will Smith with one out.

A mental error by Smith when the Phillies had the contact play on resulted in a bases loaded situation rather than two on with two outs. Betts then bailed out the Dodgers when he caught a sinking line drive and fired a strike to home plate for an inning-ending double play in the seventh.

The Dodgers took advantage in the eighth inning on a Gavin Lux go-ahead RBI single. A second run scored on a wild pitch. Austin Barnes provided a final bit of insurance with a solo home run in the ninth.

Both prior to and after the Dodgers took a decided, their bullpen pitched well to keep the Phillies at bay. David Price did allow a solo home run to Kyle Schwarber in the fourth, but Phil Bickford, Brusdar Graterol, Justin Bruihl, Daniel Hudson, Alex Vesia and Craig Kimbrel combined to throw 5.2 scoreless innings.

Betts has injury scare

On the two-run double in the fifth inning, Betts slipped while rounding second base and appeared to awkwardly land on his left shoulder. Betts immediately hunched over in pain and was checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer before remaining in the game.

Betts pulled a single into left field in his next at-bat, and for the second time in the past week finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Betts extended his on-base streak to 10 games, and Trea Turner has a 13-game hitting streak. However, Freddie Freeman went 0-for-5 and had his 20-game on-base streak snapped.
