Recap: Kyle Tucker Homers Again, Yoshinobu Yamamoto Turns In Strong Start

The Los Angeles Dodgers took the series from the New York Mets with a win on Saturday night at Citi Field. They now have a chance to sweep in the series finale on Sunday.

Both teams were also in their alternate uniforms, with the Dodgers in a Brooklyn hat for Hall of Fame Weekend. The Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2026 will be inducted on Sunday in Cooperstown.

Dodgers 4, Mets 3: key takeaways

Yoshinobu Yamamoto excellent, but not sharp

It was no surprise that the Dodgers had another excellent pitching start with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound. The right-hander tossed six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts.

However, Yamamoto wasn’t as sharp as he normally is, as he walked three batters. It’s only the third time this season Yamamoto has walked more than two hitters in a game across his 19 starts.

With that, Yamamoto also allowed five hits, and they came in groups. He allowed two in the first inning but left the runners stranded, and then the other three he allowed came in the fifth inning, which led to the Mets getting on the board.

Yamamoto allowed two singles to start the fifth inning, and then the RBI single after getting two outs.

Even without his best command, the right-hander still turned in his 12th start this season of going at least six innings with two runs or fewer allowed.

Kyle Tucker hits another home run

The Dodgers got on the board first when Kyle Tucker hit a solo home run in the third inning. After homering on Friday as well, it was the first time this season Tucker has homered in back-to-back days.

L.A. continued to add on in the third when Dalton Rushing singled and Shohei Ohtani reached on a fielder’s choice and error. Andy Pages grounded into a forceout to double the lead to 2-0.

Freddie Freeman then followed with a single, and another mistake from the Mets scored a run for the Dodgers as Pages came home on a passed ball.
Freeman finished the game going 3-for-4 to bring his average up to .299.

The Dodgers added insurance in the fifth inning, starting with Teoscar Hernández hitting a leadoff double. Pages singled to bring Hernández home, giving him his second RBI of the day.

Dodgers bullpen protects lead, barely

Alex Vesia worked a scoreless seventh, but the Mets nearly tied the game in the eighth with Edgardo Henriquez and Tanner Scott working together to record the three outs.

Henriquez hit the first batter he faced, then walked the next. He bounced back with two strikeouts after that, but then Tanner Scott entered for what appeared to be a four-out save attempt.

Scott allowed a double that scored both runs and pulled the Mets within one. After an intentional walk, Scott picked up a strikeout to strand the tying run in scoring position.

Instead of Scott going for the four-out save, Brock Stewart was the option to pitch the ninth inning. Stewart struck out the first and final batter he faced to record the save and close out the game.

Stewart recorded his first save as a Dodger since 2017, and just the third save of his career. His last came in 2023 with the Minnesota Twins.
