Recap: Kiké Hernández Lifts Dodgers To Win Over Mariners

Dalton Rushing hit a home run and Kiké Hernández provided more timely hitting to help the Los Angeles Dodgers extend their winning streak to four games by defeating the Seattle Mariners, 5-3.

After the Dodgers had squandered baserunners in multiple innings, they were on the verge of doing so again in the fourth when Rushing ambushed the first pitch he saw from Logan Gilbert for a two-out home run.

The Dodgers couldn’t add onto their 2-0 lead, and the bullpen ultimately coughed it up.

Tyler Glasnow threw 36 pitches over three scoreless innings in a planned shortened start. He allowed three hits, walked one batter and collected three strikeouts.

Andrew Heaney, who was called up Saturday, followed Glasnow with the Dodgers looking for bulk innings. Heaney is in third stint with the Dodgers organization and signed a Minor League contract in time to be eligible for the postseason.

The southpaw managed to strand a pair of runners in the fourth inning but surrendered a three-run homer to Jorge Polanco in the fifth. That was reminiscent of the long ball troubles Heaney had when pitching for the Dodgers in 2022.

The Dodgers did tie the game as Michael Conforto’s leadoff single in the seventh later resulted in a run on a wild pitch with two outs.

Blake Treinen kept the game tied by striking out three of four batters faced in the seventh inning. Included in that was Cal Raleigh falling to 0-for-6 with five strikeouts in the series when batting with a runner on base. The appearance was a back-to-back for Treinen and could be the type that helps inspire confidence moving forward.

Alex Vesia extended the Dodgers’ string of strikeouts to six in a row, and Kiké Hernández capitalized on that momentum with a two-run double in the ninth inning.

Edgardo Henriquez alo struck out the side en route to converting the save opportunity.

Dodgers preparing for Wild Card

Glasnow made a short start in his final outing of the regular season in order to potentially be an option for the roster if the Dodgers choose to include him among their bullpen options.

Shohei Ohtani received a night of rest but is expected to be back in the lineup for the regular-season finale. Max Muncy missed his third game in a row as the Dodgers look to manage his health and recovery from lingering leg soreness.
