Recap: Justin Wrobleski Sets Career High, Dodgers Hit Four Home Runs To Beat Phillies

One week removed from besting the Milwaukee Brewers in a rematch of last year’s National League Championship Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers faced off with another October foe and extended their winning streak to a season-best six games.

It’s the Dodgers’ longest winning streak since rattling off seven victories in a row from April 26-May 3, 2025. They had two other five-game winning streaks this season.

The Dodgers improved to 19-10 at Dodger Stadium this season, which is the best home record in the National League so far this season.

Dodgers 4, Phillies 2: key takeaways

Dodgers’ home runs off Wheeler

The Dodgers didn’t have many hits against Zack Wheeler, but made them count as they had a solo homer in each of the first three innings.

Freddie Freeman started the streak with an opposite-field blast in the first inning, then Max Muncy sent one into the pavilion in right field and Shohei Ohtani followed suit in the third.

Muncy’s home run was his 13th of the season, tying him with Andy Pages for the team lead. For Ohtani, it marked just his eighth homer of the year, but fourth in the last nine games. He had one home run over 35 games before that stretch.

Will Smith joined the solo home run party in the fifth inning to put the Dodgers ahead 4-0.

The power display was in stark contrast to results against Wheeler this season as he entered the night with just one homer allowed over 37.2 innings pitched. The four-homer game tied a career high for the right-hander.

Moreover, Smith’s was the 12th homer Wheeler has allowed against the Dodgers. That’s his most to any opponent outside the NL East.

Wrobleski flirts with no-hitter

Justin Wrobleski started his night in emphatic fashion by striking out the side in the first inning. He did so while relying on a fastball that had added zip, and it served as a precursor of what was to come.

Wrobleski went on to set a career high with nine strikeouts — all on the fastball — over seven innings. He did not allow a baserunner until Trea Turner’s fly ball to the right-center field gap dropped between Andy Pages and Kyle Tucker with one out in the fourth inning.

Nothing came of the error but the Phillies did finally break through when Kyle Schwarber ended Wrobleski’s no-hitter with a two-out solo home run in the sixth inning. Schwarber leads the Majors with 22 home runs this season.

Schwarber’s home run went down as the only hit Wrobleski allowed in his outing. The Dodgers flirted with a combined no-hitter on Wednesday night.

Kershaw in Dugout Club

Clayton Kershaw was back at Dodger Stadium on Friday night, seated in the owner’s area of the Dugout Club. Kershaw’s former teammates interacted with him throughout the night while in the on-deck circle, and the future Hall of Famer toasted to Muncy after his home run.

Famed Dodgers fan Brad Paisley was seated next to Kershaw.
