The Los Angeles Dodgers returned home after their longest road trip of the season, but they were greeted back to Dodger Stadium by the Athletics with an 11-1 loss.
Jacob Wilson led the way for the Athletics with two home runs, both against Landon Knack, who started on the mound for the Dodgers. Wilson’s first jome run came in the third inning after a double from Nick Kurtz, which put the A’s ahead 2-0.
Wilson added his second home run in the fifth inning after a single from Luis Urías that gave the A’s a 4-1 lead. Wilson finished his day 4-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBI.
The Athletics also added on two more that inning as Brent Rooker started another rally with a single to end Knack’s day. He was replaced by Luis García, who allowed a single to Shea Langeliers before a two-run double to Lawrence Butler, making it a 6-1 game.
Knack finished his outing with 4.2 innings pitched, allowing five runs on seven hits with one walk. He did, however, strike out a career-high eight hitters.
The Athletics added two more runs in the seventh inning when Butler doubled off J.P. Feyereisen and then scored on a single from Miguel Andujar. Andujar then scored on a single from JJ Bleday.
In the eighth, Nick Kurtz, one of MLB’s top prospects, hit his first career home run. Miguel Rojas pitched the ninth and allowed solo home runs to Andujar and Bleday.
The Dodgers offense had their chances against A’s’ starter Jeffrey Springs, but allowed him to pitch seven innings with just one run allowed. Springs gave up five hits and walked two, but the Dodgers were 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position during the game.
Will Smith, Michael Conforto and Chris Taylor were the only Dodgers to pick up hits against Springs, with Conforto posting three and Smith accounting for two. Conforto had three doubles and Taylor had one while both of Smith’s hits were singles.
Conforto’s three doubles set a career-high for the left-handed hitter, who appears to be heating up after posting two hits, including a double, in his last game.
Taylor’s double came to lead-off the third inning, and he ended up scoring on an error from Wilson that also allowed Betts to reach base. But after Smith singled, Freddie Freeman ended the inning by grounding into a double play.
Dodgers recalled J.P. Feyereisen prior to the game
The Dodgers added Feyereisen to their roster prior to the game and placed Roki Sasaki on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
Feyereisen is back with the Dodgers less than one week after he was optioned as the corresponding move to Landon Knack being recalled for a start against the Miami Marlins. It was the end of a short stint for Feyereisen, who had just been added to the Dodgers roster the day prior.
