The Los Angeles Dodgers salvaged a series split with the Colorado Rockies by getting a 9-5 win on getaway day. That ensured the Dodgers remain in sole possession of first place in the National League West heading into another pivotal series against the San Diego Padres.
With a lineup that did not include Shohei Ohtani or Teoscar Hernández because of planned rest, the Dodgers received an early jolt from Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. After Betts started the game with a walk, Freeman jumped on the first pitch he saw for a two-run home run.
The homer carried 451 feet, which is the second-longest by a Dodgers player this season. The longest home run hit by a Dodgers player in 2025 still remains Alex Call with his 453-foot blast to the left-field stands at Coors Field.
After the Rockies cut their deficit in half, the Dodgers manufactured offense in the second inning behind a Miguel Rojas RBI bunt single and Will Smith getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Alex Call added an RBI base hit in the third inning, and Michael Conforto and Alex Freeland each drove a run in during the fourth inning.
For Freeland, it came on an RBI double, his second extra-base hit of the game as he previously tripled. Andy Pages kept the Dodgers’ scoring streak going in the fifth inning with a leadoff home run.
Clayton Kershaw got a little wobbly in the sixth inning and exited the game with two runners on. Ben Casparius issued a walk that loaded the bases before he managed to get through the inning.
That closed the book on Kershaw at three runs allowed across 5.2 innings pitched. He entered having gone 4-0 with a 1.60 ERA in eight day-game starts, dating back to 2023. Over his last six starts in a day road game, Kershaw was 4-0 with a 1.16 ERA.
Dodgers keep streaks alive
The Dodgers avoided losing back-to-back games to the Rockies, which last occurred over parts of two seasons (Sept. 28, 2023-May 31, 2024.
Furthermore, the Dodgers also avoided losing their first series to the Rockies since dropping two of three from June 27-29, 2022.
