The Los Angeles Dodgers ended their longest road trip of the season with an 8-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Mother’s Day.
Tony Gonsolin turned in his best start of the season, albeit having made just three outings so far in 2025 after beginning the year on the 15-day injured list. Gonsolin took the mound at Chase Field with a 4.09 ERA this season but held the Diamondbacks scoreless over five innings.
He scattered three hits and allowed just two runners to reach scoring position. One of those instances came when Geraldo Perdomo doubled with two outs in the third inning. Pavin Smith then reached on an infield single but Gonsolin stranded both runners.
Gonsolin lowered his ERA to 2.81 on the season in the process.
That kept the Dodgers’ lead at 1-0, which was provided by Freddie Freeman on his RBI double in the first inning. Freeman later doubled in the fifth to drive in Shohei Ohtani, and Will Smith added an RBI single.
Ohtani provided more insurance for the Dodgers with an RBI base hit in the sixth inning that extended their lead to 4-0. It came off Joe Mantiply, who entered for Zac Gallen after 5.2 innings.
Freeman’s onslaught continued in the seventh inning with a solo home run. Freeman finished 4-for-4 with two doubles and one home run the day after having his 14-game hitting streak snapped. It was Freeman’s first four-hit game of the season and 30th of his career.
Betts added a home run in the ninth inning, his sixth of the season and 21st career long ball against the Diamondbacks. It’s the most home runs Betts has hit against a single opponent.
Michael Conforto went 2-for-3 in the Dodgers’ win. Conforto doubled in the fourth inning for his first extra-base hit since April 5. Sunday was also Conforto’s first multi-hit game since April 2.
