Recap: Dustin May Shines As Dodgers Hit 2 Home Runs To Beat Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers got back in the win column with a 5-3 victory against the Colorado Rockies, backed by a terrific start from Dustin May and two home runs from the top of the lineup.

May turned in not just the best start of his season, but also one of the best of his career. The right-hander was both effective and efficient, tossing six innings while allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven.

May tossed five scoreless innings before finally allowing a run in his sixth and final inning. Despite the run, it was another quality start for the Dodgers’ pitching rotation that has turned in four consecutive strong outings with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, Tyler Glasnow and now May.

The offense was primarily provided by a pair of home runs from Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani.

Betts started them off with a two-run blast in the first inning, which followed a leadoff single from Ohtani. They extended the lead to three in the third inning when Ohtani slugged a solo homer.

Betts doubled and scored in the fifth inning on a single from Will Smith, and the catcher drove in Ohtani in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly after the designated hitter reached on a single.

The Rockies answered back in the seventh against Anthony Banda when Hunter Goodman hit a two-run homer that made it a 5-3 game. But their comeback attempt fell short as Kirby Yates tossed a scoreless eighth and Tanner Scott closed out the game.

Dodgers pitching contributes to Rockies’ scoreless streak record

After being shutout by the San Diego Padres in three consecutive games, the Rockies set a new franchise record for consecutive innings without a run, with some help from the Dodgers and May.

That record was set after the fourth inning when the Rockies reached 31 consecutive scoreless innings. It extended to 32 the following inning before they were finally able to push a run across in the sixth inning.

Nick Martini scored on a double from Kyle Farmer to break the streak. Martini had previously reached on an infield single.
