The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to a season-high tying five games with a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Justin Turner and Zach McKinstry provided key home runs in the win.

The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead thanks in some part to Phil Cuzzi’s small strike zone. With Mookie Betts and Corey Seager on base, Turner’s RBI single put the Dodgers ahead 1-0 in the first inning. Gavin Lux then benefitted from a missed call in a long at-bat that ended on a sacrifice fly.

Turner’s leadoff home run in the third inning extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-0. The homer was Turner’s third this season and it was the talk of social media because of the fan in the Home Run Seats losing his nachos. Turner sent over a new order and the Dodgers provided the fan with a sweater from the team store.

Despite L.A. putting plenty of traffic on the bases as the game went on, they didn’t score again until Zach McKinstry provided insurance with an opposite-field solo home run in the eighth. That tied McKinstry with Turner for the team lead in home runs (three) and RBI (11).

Pitching for the first time since April 5, Dustin May fell short of the benchmark Dodgers starters have largely set this year at six innings. May was dominant in the first inning and still efficient in the next frame.

He then stranded a pair of singles in the third inning and a one-out double in the fourth. May lost command in the fifth inning, resulting in the Rockies loading the bases with one out. Trevor Story took advantage with an RBI single, which knocked May out of the game.

Victor Gonzalez traded a run for an out before he could get the Dodgers out of the inning. Gonzalez started the sixth but it was finished by Blake Treinen. He and Scott Alexander then combined to work a scoreless seventh inning.

Corey Knebel added to his impressive work this season by setting the Rockies down in order in the eighth, and Kenley Jansen worked around a leadoff walk to convert his third save of the year.
