The Los Angeles Dodgers got a strong pitching performance from Emmet Sheehan in his return to the rotation, but that wasn’t enough to avoid them being swept by the Houston Astros in a 5-1 loss.

Sheehan pitched five innings while allowing just one run. He also allowed five hits and one walk while striking out four.

The only run he allowed came in the third inning when the Astros strung a rally together with a single from Zack Short, a double from Isaac Paredes and then a sacrifice fly from Jose Altuve.

After Sheehan’s outing came to an end, Will Klein entered the game in the sixth. He immediately recorded two outs, but then things went south as he allowed a double, hit a batter, gave up an infield single on a softly hit ball, then walked in the go-ahead run.

Alex Vesia got the Dodgers out of the bases loaded jam and kept the team in the game with a scoreless seventh inning. But the Astros added on as, stop me if you’ve heard this before, Christian Walker homered at Dodger Stadium.

It was Walker’s second homer of the series and fifth RBI. The former Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman has made a career of destroying the Dodgers with 21 homers at Chavez Ravine since 2018, nine more than any other visiting player in that span, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

After Walker, Yanier Díaz followed with his second homer in as many days to extend the Astros’ lead to 4-1. Altuve homered in the 9th inning to push the lead to 5-1.

Dodgers offense scores first but goes quiet

The Dodgers offense could only muester one run in the game, which came as a result of the bottom of the lineup in the seventh inning. Michael Conforto started them off with a walk before Hyeseong Kim singled.

Miguel Rojas then grounded into a double play, but the Dodgers were able to score the first run of the game when Dalton Rushing doubled to left field.

The Dodgers had a chance to tie it in the 8th when Freddie Freeman was batting as the tying run, but he lined out to center field.
