Recap: Dodgers Swept By Brewers In Season Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t protect their lead and were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers in a 6-5 loss at Dodger Stadium that was compounded by Freddie Freeman leaving the game after getting hit by a pitch in the left wrist.

After Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani both struck out in the first inning, the Dodgers saw some results from the switch at the top of their lineup.

Betts singled with two outs in the third inning and Ohtani followed that by lining a two-run home run to left field that extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-0.

However, it was largely downhill from there due to multiple defensive miscues.

With a runner on third base and two outs in the fourth inning, Tommy Edman made a strong diving stop, only for his throwing error allowing Andrew Vaughn to score.

Andruw Monasterio followed that with an RBI infield single and the Brewers tied the game on Andy Pages’ error when he inexplicably had a line drive go off his glove.

Pages managed to bounce back with a catch while going into the wall for the first out of the fifth inning, but Esteury Ruiz soon after booted a base hit that gifted the Brewers an extra base. It didn’t amount to a run, but marked the end of the day for Clayton Kershaw.

Alex Vesia stranded inherited runners to close the book on Kershaw at three runs (two earned) allowed over 4.1 innings pitched.

Similar to Pages trying to make up for his error, Ruiz followed suit with a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the fifth. The homer was Ruiz’s eighth of his career and first with the Dodgers.

The Brewers jumped back in front behind three runs scoring in the sixth inning, which saw Vesia, Lou Trivino and Will Klein pitch. Trivino inherited a double from Vesia and gave way to Klein after allowing a game-tying RBI single and issuing a walk that loaded the bases.

Klein gave up a two-run single to Isaac Collins, but also saw the inning come to an end when Pages threw out Vaughn at third base.

The Dodgers brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the bottom of the ninth and loaded the bases with two outs. Dalton Rushing reached on an infield single but Abner Uribe retired Betts to stop the rally and extend the Brewers’ winning streak to 10 games.

Brewers sweep Dodgers in season series

The Dodgers had already lost the season series to the Brewers by virtue of dropping Friday’s game at Dodger Stadium. But their loss on Sunday amounted to being swept by the Brewers in a season series for the first time.

In the week before the All-Star break, the Brewers completed their first home sweep of the Dodgers in franchise history.

Prior to Milwaukee this year, the Dodgers hadn’t been swept in a season series since the Los Angeles Angels won all four Freeway Series games in 2019.

Also before the Brewers in 2025, last time a team swept a season series over the Dodgers that was more than four games was when the St. Louis Cardinals went 7-0 in their head-to-head matchups in 2006.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are also mired in an eight-game losing streak against the Brewers in a stretch that dates back to last season. It’s the Dodgers’ longest such streak to Milwaukee.
