Recap: Dodgers Sweep Doubleheader In Blow Out Of Diamondbacks

The Los Angeles Dodgers technically earned a fourth consecutive comeback win but in reality enjoyed a comfortable night by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks, 12-3, to complete a doubleheader sweep.

The Dodgers have won all four games that are part of a doubleheader this season, and have one more twin bill on their schedule when they host the Diamondbacks on Sept. 20.

On Tuesday, Arizona took a lead in the first inning behind back-to-back home runs by Jordan Luplow and Christian Walker. It was more of the same for Walker, who historically has hit well against the Dodgers and now has 14 career homers when playing them.

That was all Tyler Anderson allowed as he took advantage of the Dodgers tying a season high with 11 runs. Anderson pitched aggressively and got through seven innings to take a burden off the bullpen.

The start was his longest since also pitching seven innings as a member of the Seattle Mariners on Sept. 20, 2021.

The Dodgers quickly went to work on erasing their deficit as Mookie Betts led off with a walk, Freddie Freeman doubled and Trea Turner tied the game on his two-run single. Kelly benefitted from Turner getting thrown out trying to stretch it to a double, and he got out of the inning with consecutive strikeouts.

However, the reprieve was brief for Kelly. With two on and one out in the second inning, Gavin Lux broke up the tie by clearing the bases with a double to left field. Intentionally walking Freeman with two outs then backfired as Turner lined an RBI single off Jake Hager’s glove, and Edwin Ríos landed a knockout punch with a three-run home run.

The Dodgers created more separation against Edwin Uceta in the sixth inning on Freeman’s two-run ground-rule double. A throwing error brought in the Dodgers’ third run of the inning. Freeman collected his third double of the game in the eighth, scoring Betts from first base.

Hanser Alberto pitches

With the Dodgers holding a comfortable lead, Hanser Alberto was tasked with becoming their latest position player to pitch. He allowed a run but otherwise got through the ninth inning without much issue.

Dodgers streaking

Betts extended his hitting streak to six games, Freeman has reached safely 18 in a row, and Turner has a 10-game hitting streak.
