The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3, to extend their winning streak to five games and complete a series sweep. L.A. has come from behind in every game of their current winning streak.
Though, Wednesday’s path was slightly different as it was the Dodgers who struck first. Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman again were catalysts, combining for a double and RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
The Diamondbacks pulled even when back-to-back singles left runners at the corners in the second inning for Geraldo Perdomo, who brought a run in on a groundout. Arizona took a 2-1 lead in the third inning by capitalizing on Walker Buehler issuing a leadoff walk to No. 9 hitter Jake Hager.
After a double from Will Smith and Max Muncy’s single, Justin Turner gave the Dodgers their decided lead with a three-run home run. It marked a second consecutive day Turner homered and gave him a team-leading 28 RBI on the season.
Buehler ran into a bases-loaded jam with nobody out in the fifth inning that he escaped behind back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout. Buehler let off a celebratory yell as he walked toward the dugout upon completing his final inning of the day.
The outing was a far cry from the complete-game shutout at Chase Field last month, but Buehler did well to limit damage. He allowed just the two runs and finished with four strikeouts compared to two walks.
The Diamondbacks scored a run against Brusdar Graterol and chased him from the game. David Price inherited the tying runs on base and needed just three pitches to get a strikeout to end the seventh inning. Price then remained in the game and retired the Diamondbacks in order in the eighth.
Wednesday’s appearance was Price’s first since being placed on the COVID-19 injured list April 24.
Daniel Hudson converted his second save of the season.
