The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offense took pressure off their pitching staff in a bullpen game by slugging their way to a 15-2 win over the Miami Marlins. The 15 runs set a season high for the Dodgers and was only their second time scoring in double-digits.
Their first instance in 2025 came in an 11-10 walk-off loss to the Chicago Cubs on April 22. Because the Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Tuesday’s game marked the Dodgers’ MLB-leading 12th comeback win of the season.
Moreover, the Dodgers have at least 10 hits in nine of their last 13 games, including the last four. They didn’t reach that many in any of their first 17 games to begin the season.
They were led in the blowout by four RBI from Teoscar Hernández, who leads the Majors this season with 31. Not far behind him was Tommy Edman with three RBI, and Mookie Betts, Will Smith and Andy Pages each having two RBI.
The collective offensive explosion came despite the Marlins having ace Sandy Alcantara on the mound, with the outing yet another bumpy performance against the Dodgers.
Alcantara allowed seven runs and issued five walks over just 2.2 innings pitched. The right-hander now has a 9.66 career ERA against the Dodgers.
Shohei Ohtani began the Dodgers’ comeback with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning. The homer was Ohtani’s seventh of the season but first since becoming a father.
Hernández’s RBI double gave the Dodgers a decided lead and sent them on their way. Edman added a sacrifice fly before Alcantara could get through the first inning.
Hernández added another RBI double in the second inning, reigning co-National League Player of the Week Andy Pages contributed with a run-scoring single in the third, and Betts drove in a pair on his base hit.
Will Smith’s two-run double with the bases loaded in the sixth inning firmly broke the game open and Edman’s extra-base hit brought in another pair.
Pages capitalized on the Marlins turning to a position player to pitch by hitting his fourth home run in the last seveng ames.
Matt Sauer relieves Dodgers bullpen
After Jack Dreyer filled an opener role to get through the first and second, Matt Sauer followed with five innings to help take the burden off a taxed Dodgers bullpen.
Luis García pitched the eighth and Kiké Hernández took the mound in the ninth inning to finish out the game.
