Walker Buehler was inconsistent and the offense could not get into a rhythm as the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped the series opener against the Colorado Rockies, 4-1.

The outing proved to be another difficult one for Buehler, who has been inconsistent since returning from his second Tommy John surgery.

Buehler started the outing by allowing consecutive singles before getting a strikeout. He then walked a hitter to load the bases, and followed that up by striking out the next two hitters he faced.

A singled and walk put the Rockies in position to score once again in the third inning, and things started to fall apart for Buehler. A single from Kris Bryant made it a 1-0 game.

Brendan Rodgers followed with a single to drive in another run, and a fielding error from Andy Pages allowed a third run to score, making it a 3-0 game. Buehler walked one more hitter, but then got out of the inning, leaving runners at the corners.

The Rockies added on again in the fourth inning with a solo home run from Ezequiel Tovar, putting them up 4-0.

Buehler ended up throwing two more innings, giving the Dodgers six innings pitched, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. His lack of command hurt him, but overall, Buehler was able to battle to keep the team in the game and provide them some length.

As for the offense, they couldn’t find anything against Dakota Hudson, who pitched seven shutout innings before running into trouble in the eighth.

The Dodgers didn’t have a hit against him until Andy Pages singled with two outs in the third, and their first extra-base hit didn’t come until a leadoff double in the eighth inning from Gavin Lux.

After Lux’s double, Hudson walked Miguel Rojas, and he was taken out of the game with no outs and two on. Victor Vodnik replaced Hudson and allowed a single to Pages that loaded the bases.

However, he stifled the rally when he got Mookie Betts to ground into a double play, but it also scored the Dodgers’ only run of the game. After Shohei Ohtani walked, Freddie Freeman struck out to end the inning, ending the threat.

Dodgers face Rockies for two more games before road trip

The Dodgers have two games remaining against the Rockies before heading back to the east coast in strange scheduling for them. The Dodgers will also hope the month of June provides some new energy for the offense as they’ve struggled to produce runs for much of May.
