Recap: Dodgers Hit 4 Home Runs & Clinch Series Win Against Athletics

Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman combined for five hits to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Oakland Athletics, 10-1, for their first series win of the homestand. The Dodgers went into the three-game set with the A’s having lost consecutive series to the Toronto Blue Jays and Cincinnati Reds.

Building off a comfortable win Tuesday, they continued to take advantage of facing the worst team in baseball.

After Betts led off with a double, Freeman flared the first pitch he saw into left-center field for an RBI single. Walks by Will Smith and Max Muncy loaded the bases, and the Dodgers added onto their lead when Chris Taylor reached on an RBI infield single and James Outman beat out a would-be inning-ending double play.

Betts added onto the Dodgers’ lead in the second inning with his 29th home run of the season, and doubles by Freeman and Smith put them up 5-0. Amed Rosario’s first home run with the Dodgers capped off the four-run inning.

Betts’ blast to the pavilion in left field was a no-doubter off the bat

Miguel Rojas joined the power display in the third inning with his first home run of the season. Jason Heyward, who entered the game for Betts, homered in the sixth. Heyward’s home run was his first off a left-handed pitcher since May 17, 2021, against former Chicago Cubs teammate Jon Lester, who was pitching for Washington Nationals.

Kiké Hernández put the Dodgers into double digits with an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Dodgers pitchers

Tony Gonsolin only completed five innings the fourth start in a row, and he gave up some loud contact but held the Athletics to just one run. That came on Shea Langeliers’ solo homer in the third inning, after the Dodgers had already stormed out to a big lead.

Yency Almonte followed Gonsolin with two scoreless innings, Alex Vesia did the same in the eighth and Ryan Brasier finished out the game.
