Freddie Freeman bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium started with his sons being involved in the ceremonial first pitch, and gave way to Shohei Ohtani’s four RBI helping lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a walk-off win over the Colorado Rockies.
Dalton Rushing delivered the game-winning hit in the 11th inning. The walk-off hit was Rushing’s second of his career, with both coming in the last 15 games.
The Dodgers improved to 8-2 in the last 10 games and are the first team to 60 wins this season. They previously were first to 50 wins in 2026.
Dodgers 8, Rockies 7: key takeaways
First extra innings game
Already the holders of the National League record for most games played in a season without going to extra innings, the Dodgers continued to inch closer to the all-time MLB mark.
But their streak of avoiding extras ended in the 92nd game of the season. The MLB record remains with the 2005 Boston Red Sox team that went 98 games to begin the season without extra innings.
However, with their walk-off win, the Dodgers are still undefeated at 56-0 when leading after eight innings this year.
Shohei Ohtani, Dalton Rushing power offense
Ohtani continued to demonstrate there isn’t reason for concern after he experienced some discomfort in his right bicep. With the Dodgers trailing 1-0 in the third inning, he followed Dalton Rushing’s leadoff double with a two-run home run.
Then after Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas combined to drive in three runs during the fourth inning, Rushing’s second double of the night set the table for Ohtani’s RBI single.
Ohtani led all players with four RBI, one off tying his season high.
Eric Lauer’s quality start
Eric Lauer overcame a shaky second inning and the Rockies scoring late in his outing to give the Dodgers a third quality start. He also pitched six no-hit innings after following an opener on June 22.
The Dodgers have won all six of Lauer’s starts since he was traded to the team.
Lauer needed some luck to achieve that Monday night as Colorado loaded the bases with nobody out in the second inning. They managed just one run on a sacrifice fly by Ezequiel Tovar, who was frustrated over not doing more with a 1-2 fastball that was left over the plate.
Tovar later led off the fifth inning with a home run and Jake McCarthy added an RBI single to give the Rockies not only their final run against Lauer but in the game.
Dodgers bullpen labors
Brock Stewart struck out two in a perfect seventh inning, but it was somewhat of a grind for Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott after him. Vesia managed a scoreless eighth inning despite walking two batters.
Scott’s first walk since May 19 and fourth of the season contributed to a run when Willi Castro singled and Kyle Karros hit an RBI double. An intentional walk loaded the bases with one out, and the Rockies wound up tying the game with two outs.
NL West lead
The Dodgers are 21-11 against the National League West this year and remained a season-high-tying 14 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Division. They additionally have the best home record in the NL at 30-15.
And since the start of the 2023 season, the Dodgers are 37-10 against the Rockies while winning 19 of their 21 matchups at Dodger Stadium. Included in that is a current 11-game home winning streak when facing Colorado, which dates back to Sept. 22, 2024.
