Recap: Dodgers Drop Series To Braves On Walk-Off Hit

The Los Angeles Dodgers saw their season-high six-game winning streak end last night after falling to the Atlanta Braves, 4-3, but they had a chance to tie the series on Wednesday and force a rubber match. But they were unable to do so after failing on offense multiple times and losing on a walk-off single.

The Braves took two of three from the Dodgers in Los Angeles earlier this season, from May 8-10, so they have now clinched the season series.

The Dodgers entered having won eight of their last 14 games at Truist Park, dating back to the 2022 season, including two of three last year, but have been unable to maintain their success.

Braves 6, Dodgers 5: key takeaways

Braves hit walk-off single

With a 5-5 tie in the ninth inning, Lane Thomas hit a two-out double against Tanner Scott. Ha-Seong Kim then singled home the game winning run to provide the Braves with a walk-off win and the Dodgers with their second straight loss.

Tommy Edman shows up, Dodgers offense does not

Tommy Edman did most of the work for the Dodgers’ offense as he drove in three runs and scored two while going two-for-three and added an RBI-walk.

Edman hit a leadoff double in the second inning when the Dodgers were trailing by one, and he scored on a single from Hunter Feduccia that tied the game.

Edman then put the Dodgers up 3-1 in the third inning with a two-out, two-run homer after a leadoff double from Freddie Freeman.

With the Dodgers trailing in the seventh inning, Edman took a walk with the bases loaded that tied the game, 5-5. The inning started with a leadoff double from Shohei Ohtani and singles from Freeman and Mookie Betts.

Betts drove in the fourth run of the game with his hit, and then Muncy walked to load the bases before Edman’s walk.

The Dodgers had ample opportunities to score again and take the lead, but left the bases loaded in both the seventh and eighth innings without scoring again. They went 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

Roki Sasaki exits with blister

Roki Sasaki was back on the mound looking to continue his recent success, but his outing was cut short due to injury.

Sasaki was removed in the fourth inning due to a blister on his right middle finger. Sasaki’s exit came after he gave up a double to Sean Murphy with one out and retired just one of four batters he faced in the inning.

Edgardo Henriquez inherited two runners in scoring position, and they both scored on a misplay by Teoscar Hernández that resulted in a two-run double for Drake Baldwin.

Prior to that, Sasaki allowed a home run in the first inning to Matt Olson that gave the Braves a 1-0 lead.

The fourth inning began with a leadoff walk, single, and sacrifice fly before Hernandez’s defensive blunder. Sasaki was charged with four runs over 3.1 innings while allowing six hits, striking out three and walking two.
