The Los Angeles Dodgers twice came from behind to defeat the Washington Nationals, 6-2, and extend their winning streak to six games. The game was called after five innings and a rain delay that lasted more than one hour.

Tony Gonsolin was originally scheduled to start but the threat of a rain delay prompted the Dodgers to rely on Victor Gonzalez as an opener. He failed to get through the first inning, retired two of four batters faced and allowed one run.

Gonsolin entered in the second inning and pitched through the fourth, allowing one run in his final frame. Some of that was bad luck as Starlin Castro hit a soft ground ball that got through for a go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Dodgers responded in the fifth, beginning with AJ Pollock hitting a leadoff home run to tie the game. Patrick Corbin later walked Chris Taylor to put two on and Justin Turner’s second hit of the night loaded the bases.

Max Muncy then atoned for missing a pitch earlier in the game by connecting on a mammoth grand slam that gave the Dodgers a 6-2 lead. It marked a third consecutive game in which Muncy slugged a home run and the Dodgers’ seventh grand slam this season.

That tied them with the Atlanta Braves for most this year.

Garrett Cleavinger allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth but induced a double play and faced the minimum. That loomed large as a severe thunderstorm quickly entered the area and sent the game into a rain delay.

Dodgers visiting White House

President Joe Biden is welcoming of the Dodgers to the White House on Friday morning to recognize the team for winning the 2020 World Series. The event will be held in the East Room and mark the Dodgers’ first official visit to the White House since October 26, 1988.
