Recap: Dodgers Defeat Giants To Force Tie In NL West

The Los Angeles Dodgers bounced back from a walk-off loss to defeat the San Francisco Giants, 6-1, and pull into a tie for first place in the National League West. The teams meet for a rubber match and the final time during the regular season on Sunday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he was not concerned about Trea Turner committing a game-ending error, and that was supported by the dynamic leadoff man opening the game with a home run.

Mookie Betts and Justin Turner both walked with one out, then completed a double steal. Corey Seager’s sacrifice fly extended the Dodgers’ lead and AJ Pollock tacked on another run with an RBI double.

L.A. went quiet from there until Turner reached on an infield single with one out in the sixth inning. He was awarded second base on Mauricio Dubón’s throwing error and took third on a wild pitch.

Turner’s unconventional trip around the bases culminated with scoring on a balk call against Jose Quintana.

Corey Seager provided insurance with a leadoff home run in the ninth inning and Albert Pujols added a sacrifice fly, but by then Julio Urias and the Dodgers bullpen had protected the lead.

Urias allowed an RBI double to Buster Posey in the bottom of the first inning but otherwise navigated his way through traffic. Urias allowed eight hits but offset that in some regard with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings

His 96 pitches were the most thrown in a start since July 21.

Alex Vesia stranded an inherited runner at second base in the sixth inning, and Phil Bickford and Blake Treinen combined for a scoreless seventh. Treinen’s appearance went four outs as he retired the side in order in the eighth inning.

Kenley Jansen had been warming up for the save opportunity but the Dodgers’ late runs led to Brusdar Graterol finishing out the win.

Dodgers lose Pollock to injury

After hitting a two-out RBI double in the first inning, Pollock was caught taking too aggressive of a lead and thrown out at third base. More costly, however, was Pollock needing to come out of the game due to what the team has initially diagnosed as a right hamstring strain.
