Recap: Brewers Clinch Potential Playoff Tie-Breaker With Series Win Over Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers faced off in potentially the most important series of this season, and Sunday had even more importance given the potential postseason implications.

The Dodgers and Brewers entered their final matchup tied 3-3 in the season series, meaning the winner of Sunday’s game would hold the season series and a potentially important tiebreaker between the two clubs.

The Dodgers took two of three with Milwaukee at American Family Field from May 22-24, and it was the club’s first series win over the Brew Crew since July 2024. But the Brew Crew answered back by taking three of four at Dodger Stadium with their win on Sunday, and clinched a potential tie-breaker scenario over the Boys in Blue.

Although the Dodgers only won one game on Friday night, that snapped a five-game home losing streak to Milwaukee.

Brewers 6, Dodgers 2: key takeaways

Dodgers offense continues to struggle

Max Muncy slugged a solo home run in the fourth inning that tied the game, 1-1, but that was the Dodgers’ entire offense for the day.

Logan Henderson was in complete control for the Brewers, giving them seven innings with just one run allowed. He also held the Dodgers to just three hits and one walk while striking out six.

The Dodgers didn’t get a single runner into scoring position against Henderson, and only had two batters left on base because a double play cost them one of their baserunners.

L.A. finally got their first runner in scoring position against the bullpen in the eighth inning. Teoscar Hernández and Hunter Feduccia had a pair of singles, but with runners at the corners, Shohei Ohtani grounded into a double play to end the threat.

The Dodgers finally got one more run in the ninth inning on a home run from Andy Pages.

Tarik Skubal turns in strong outing

Tarik Skubal made his third start in Dodger Blue, and he once again gave the club a chance to win with arguably his best start for L.A. Skubal pitched six innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts, but he did allow seven hits and two walks. Only one of the runs was earned.

The Brewers struck early in the second inning with a one-out walk, and then a two-out single and walk loaded the bases. Luis Lara then hit a ground ball to shortstop, but Mookie Betts and Tommy Edman were unable to record an out at second base.

Betts flipped the ball over to Edman, but it was not caught, allowing a run to score. The error was charged to Edman.

The Brewers retook the lead in the fifth inning, starting with a two-out double from Jackson Chourio. Jake Bauers then singled him home to put Milwaukee up 2-1.

Skubal ended his outing by striking out the side in the sixth inning, but still took the loss, given the offense’s struggles.

Dodgers bullpen extends Brewers lead

Edgardo Henriquez and Alex Vesia continued the trend of struggling Dodgers relievers as each allowed a run to extend the Brewers’ lead.

Henriquez allowed a two-out single in the seventh after replacing Skubal, and that run scored when Alex Vesia allowed a double to Jake Bauers. Vesia then allowed a run-scoring single from Andrew Vaughn to put the Brewers up, 4-1.

The Brewers added on two more runs in the ninth inning Kyle Hurt allowed a one-out walk and double before Jack Dreyer came in. Dreyer walked the first batter, and then two runs scored on another error by Tommy Edman.
