Recap: Alex Call Leads Dodgers Offense In Win VS. Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offense exploded early in a 11-4 victory led by Alex Call over the Colorado Rockies, while Emmet Sheehan turned in a solid start for most of his outing.

The Dodgers got started early when Will Smith walked with one out in the first inning, and then Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernández each followed with a pair of two-out doubles to make it 2-0.

Call opened the second inning with his first home run as a Dodger that opened it up to 3-0. With two outs in the inning, Shohei Ohtani made it 4-0 with his National League-leading 44th home run of the season.

Call drove in another run in the third inning with a two-out single to drive in Freeman. The Dodgers’ first baseman previously reached on a single and advanced to scoring position on another single from Hernández.

Miguel Rojas then continued the singles party to make it 6-0, and Buddy Kennedy joined in with his first hit with the Dodgers to put them up 7-0 and drive in Call.

The Dodgers scored three more runs in the seventh inning to give them 10 for the game. Andy Pages and Call both singled before Pages ended up scoring on a passed ball.

Alex Freeland took a walk and Ohtani hit into a fielder’s choice to drive another run in, and Smith capped off the inning with another RBI single.

For good measure, the Dodgers added on one more in the ninth off another RBI single from Smith. He drove in Rojas, who reached on a leadoff walk.

Call finished his night 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, also finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Every Dodgers’ starter had a hit in the game, and with Freeland drawing a walk, every Dodgers’ player to take an at-bat ended up reaching base.

Emmet Sheehan shows mixed results for Dodgers

Sheehan was strong throughout his outing, but got beat on a pair of two-run homers. The first came in the fourth inning off the bat of Brenton Doyle to make it 7-2.

The second homer Sheehan allowed came during his final inning, when Kyle Karros slugged his first career home run. Kyle is the son of Dodgers’ broadcaster Eric Karros, who was in attendance for the game.

Sheehan finished his outing after six innings of work while allowing four runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Jack Dreyer, Ben Casparius and Anthony Banda pitched the final three innings scoreless to finish off the game.
