In his last start against the San Diego Padres, Stripling tossed four scoreless innings with five strikeouts and two walks. As a starter this season, Stripling has allowed 12 hits and four earned runs in eight innings pitched (4.50 ERA).
The Reds counter with the longest-tenured member of their starting rotation in Homer Bailey. Over 43.1 innings this season (eight starts), the 32-year-old is 0-5 with a 5.61 ERA, 6.27 FIP and 1.34 WHIP.
Bailey has additionally yielded a National League-high 11 home runs this season. In his last start against the New York Mets, he allowed eight hits and six earned runs over four innings pitched.
Bailey owns a lifetime 3.69 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 31.2 career frames at Dodger Stadium, having last pitched there in 2014, when he earned a win after logging seven innings of two-run ball.
Dodgers veterans Chase Utley and Matt Kemp have faced Bailey extensively over their careers. Utley is 7-for-28 (.250 batting average) against him, while Kemp is 4-for-17 (.235 batting average) with a home run.
The Dodgers have not been able to figure out Reds second baseman Scoot Gennett in this series. He is 7-for-9 with two home runs, six RBI and three runs scored through the first two games.
