Preview: Kenta Maeda, Dodgers Can Extend Respective Streaks

The Los Angeles Dodgers enter Tuesday with sole possession of third place in the National League West, having won two in a row and nine of their last 11 games. With a win against the Philadelphia Phillies, they will move one step closer to clinching a fourth consecutive series.

With an extra day of rest, Kenta Maeda makes his 10th start of the season. That was designed, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes the right-hander is more effective on five days of rest, rather than the usual four.

Maeda enters with a 15.1 scoreless inning streak, dating back to his start against the Cincinnati Reds on May 11. In his last outing against the Colorado Rockies, he tossed 6.2 shutout innings while accumulating a season-high 12 strikeouts.

The Phillies counter with Jake Arrieta, who looks to build off an excellent start against the Atlanta Braves. He, too, tossed 6.2 scoreless innings while tallying seven strikeouts to only one walk.

In his first season with the Phillies, Arrieta has posted a solid 2.45 ERA, 3.25 FIP and 1.15 WHIP over 51.1 innings pitched with 35 punch outs to 17 free passes.

The right-hander has historically fared well at Dodger Stadium since entering the league in 2010, most notably throw a no-hitter there in 2015 as a member of the Chicago Cubs.

Across three starts and 20 innings pitched, Arrieta has pitched to a 3.60 ERA and 0.90 WHIP while registering 10.8 strikeouts per nine. In five overall games against the Dodgers, he owns a lifetime 3.77 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 31 innings with 38 strikeouts to 16 walks.

Arrieta faces a Dodgers lineup that has Max Muncy in the leadoff spot for a third time this season. He enters batting .244/.359/.512 with five doubles, six home runs and 18 RBI.

Rhys Hoskins is not in the Phillies lineup one night after a foul ball went up his shoulder and hit his face.

Dodgers lineup:

1B: Max Muncy
3B: Justin Turner
CF: Cody Bellinger
LF: Matt Kemp
SS: Chris Taylor
RF: Yasiel Puig
2B: Logan Forsythe
C: Austin Barnes
P: Kenta Maeda

Phillies lineup:

3B: Pedro Florimon
CF: Odubel Herrera
1B: Carlos Santana
RF: Aaron Altherr
LF: Nick Williams
