After going 3-3 on their road trip, the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped the first of a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Much of the discussion centered around the flare up between Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner, which Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said has been put to bed.
Los Angeles looks to turn the page on their seven-game homestand with Julio Urias making the first of what’s only expected to be two more starts. The 19-year-old lefty is fresh off the best start of his young career.
In a loss against the San Francisco Giants, Urias went 5.1 innings while allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out seven. His lone mistake was a breaking ball hung to Brandon Belt that was hit for a two-run home run.
Urias is 0-2 with a 5.82 ERA 4.96 FIP and 1.59 WHIP over four starts with the Dodgers. After throwing 86 pitches in each of his last two outings, Urias is on a limit of 90-100 pitches. Roberts indicated how much stress he faces could impact that number.
Youth is a theme Friday night at Dodger Stadium with 23-year-old Zach Davies starting for the Brewers. In 11 starts this season, Davies is 5-3 with a 3.88 ERA, 4.21 FIP and 1.18 WHIP in 62.2 innings pitched.
Los Angeles may have caught Davies at a bad time as he’s hit a hot stretch. In his last seven starts, Davies is 5-0 with a 2.49 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 43.1 innings. Turner returns to the lineup after appearing as a pinch-hitter in the series opener.
Will Venable makes a second consecutive start since signing with the Dodgers this week. Los Angeles enters play trailing the Giants by 6.5 games for first place in the National League West.
