Preview: Dodgers Eye Second Sweep Of Rockies During 2019 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers made franchise history with a 10th consecutive win against the Colorado Rockies and now enter play Sunday with an opportunity to complete a sweep at Dodger Stadium and maintain further control of the National League West.

A win would also give the Dodgers a second series sweep of the Rockies this season. They previously did so at Coors Field in early April, and are returning to Colorado Thursday for the start of a four-game series.

Kenta Maeda takes the mound for the first time since being struck on the right wrist by a comebacker. He underwent an X-ray that came back negative but was dealing with residual soreness.

Maeda is pitching on an extra day of rest, which the Dodgers had already planned to do for each of their starters during the current stretch of 18 games in as many days. Maeda is 7-4 with a 3.87 ERA, 4.12 FIP and 1.08 WHIP in 14 starts.

He started in the series at Coors Field earlier this year, allowing just one run on four hits in five innings. Though, Maeda did issue a season-high four walks.

The Rockies counter with Antonio Senzatela, who has allowed one earned run in three of four starts during June, going 3-1 with a 3.57 ERA. The lone loss came when Senzatela allowed eight runs in just four innings and took a loss against the Chicago Cubs.

The right-hander hasn’t faced the Dodgers since appearing in three games (one start) during the 2017 season. Senzatela went 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA, two home runs allowed, five walks and six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

As Dodgers manager Dave Roberts suggested was possible, the club placed David Freese on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain. Freese had been bothered by knee tendinitis, which Roberts believes contributed to the hamstring trouble.

Will Smith was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
