For as poorly as the Los Angeles Dodgers have played of late, they head into Thursday afternoon’s game in position to get a series split with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The four-game finale begins at 12:40 p.m., with the broadcast exclusively on Facebook Watch.
The pitching matchup features two starters who sport drastically opposite records in Alex Wood and Patrick Corbin. Wood enters 0-3 with a 4.11 ERA in his six outings this season, but has pitched to a 2.11 FIP and 0.89 WHIP.
He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in four of the starts. One of those was at Chase Field, when Wood went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits, suffering a loss on April 4.
Meanwhile, Corbin is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA, 2.71 FIP and 0.75 WHIP in six starts. He started opposite Wood last month and recorded 12 strikeouts while limiting the Dodgers to just one hit over 7.1 shutout innings.
Corbin has notched a minimum of seven strikeouts in each of his starts this season but has also surrendered at least one home run in each of the last two.
Both teams made roster moves ahead of first pitch, with the Diamondbacks reinstating Steven Souza Jr. from the disabled list. Souza starts in right field and bats fifth in his Diamondbacks debut.
The Dodgers recalled Yimi García and Tim Locastro from Triple-A Oklahoma City, and in turned optioned Breyvic Valera Oklahoma City and placed Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 10-day disabled list with a left groin strain. Ryu’s injury forced him to leave Wednesday’s game in the second inning.
With Chris Taylor at shortstop, Locastro starts in center field. He’s joined in the outfield by Alex Verdugo and Matt Kemp.
