The Los Angeles Dodgers are mired in a three-game losing streak for the first time since June 28-30, but there’s reason for optimism. That skid was followed by four consecutive wins, and Brian Dozier is making his Dodgers debut Wednesday night.
Another loss would mean the Milwaukee Brewers clinch the season series, with a final head-to-head meeting set for Thursday. Milwaukee enters play on a modest two-game winning streak, with both victories coming at Dodger Stadium.
They now look to get to Rich Hill, who picked up nine strikeouts and the Brewers to just one run over six innings in his July 20 start at Miller Park. Hill followed that effort by throwing seven shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves.
On the season he’s now 4-4 with a 3.82 ERA, 4.32 FIP and 1.30 WHIP in 14 games (13 starts) this season. Hill credited his recent string of improved results to making a mechanical adjustment while on the 10-day disabled list.
The Brewers counter with Chase Anderson, who has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last seven starts. The Dodgers did make him work in their previous meeting, as the right-hander made it through just four innings but limited the damage to two runs.
Anderson faces a Dodgers lineup that has Dozier starting at second base and batting fifth. Dozier isn’t the only new second baseman in the game, as Jonathan Schoop is in the Brewers lineup at the cleanup spot.
