Preview: Alex Wood Looking To Erase Troubles In Road Trip Finale At Coors Field

The Los Angeles Dodgers rode on the back of Kenta Maeda in the second game of their series with the Colorado Rockies, evening the three-game set with a 4-1 victory.

Now Alex Wood looks to right his troubles in the series and road trip finale. In his previous outing, the southpaw had a forgettable performance against the Atlanta Braves. Wood allowed seven hits and six runs (three earned) to his former teammates in four innings pitched.

For his career, the 25-year-old lefty has made five starts against the Rockies. In those matchups, Wood is 2-2 with a 6.23 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. However, much of his success against the Rockies has come at Dodger Stadium.

In three career starts at Coors Field, Wood has suffered two losses. In just 11 total innings pitched, he’s surrendered 21 hits and 15 runs.

Making the start for the Rockies is Jordan Lyles. In his last outing, the 25 year old turned in a dominant performance on the road against the Cincinnati Reds. Over seven frames, Lyles allowed just four hits and one unearned run in a victory.

That outing was a relief for Lyles, as his first two starts against other National League West foes resulted in losses where he allowed five runs in less than five innings.

Just like his counterpart, Lyles has not had particular success against his opponent. In four career starts against the Dodgers, all of which have been at Dodger Stadium, the right-hander native is 0-3 with a 6.85 ERA and 1.48 WHIP.

In 18 career starts at Coors Field, Lyles is 6-5 with a 5.36 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. Trayce Thompson receives the start in left field, giving Kiké Hernandez another day off against a right-handed pitcher.

Yasmani Grandal returns to the lineup, after A.J. Ellis caught Kenta Maeda in Saturday’s victory.
